Writing is not glamorous. It isn’t easy. And very few people get rich from it.

(I am not one of them.)

I’ve been writing regularly for over twelve years now. Books, articles, blogs, and essays.

I wrote my first blog post on May 9th, 2012. Since then, I have written a new one every single week. I just submitted the manuscript for my fourth book.

And my one takeaway is: writing is work.

Sure, that first idea is exhilarating, when you’re standing in line to buy stamps or driving to pick up kids from practice, and you get hit with what you want to write about next. It’s like being struck by a bolt of lightning. You feel all lit up and dreamy. You race home, determined to get pen to paper or fingertips to keyboard. But when you sit down, you feel a little deflated.

I know I do, anyway.
