The mattress covers have been bought. New t-shirts, a fan for warm nights, and extra charging cords.

Now what?

We have dropped three kids off at college, including our son with autism. Next month, we will bring our daughter to school.

I hate it. I’ll just say it right now. I hate leaving them. I hate the way they turn and walk one way, and we turn and walk the other. I hate coming home to a quiet house.

I especially hate it because kids who are getting ready to leave for college often turn a little, uh, mean. It’s not on purpose, I promise! They are trying to separate from us emotionally and it’s very developmentally appropriate, even if you do feel like it ruins the summer.

But I digress.

College drop-offs can be challenging. Here are three things we found made it easier, so your kiddo can have a great first day at their new school and you can sob quietly on the drive home.
